Our Founder

Village of Hope Las Vegas (VOHLV) was created by Sherrie Gahn, Whitney Elementary School's current principal. Sherrie has always gone to great lengths to help children and families in the Las Vegas community. Sherrie empathizes the difficulties these children and their families face on a daily basis. Through VOHLV, she impacts the lives of many at-risk children and low-income families in innumerable positive ways. VOHLV provides basic necessities and educational resources to assist children in focusing and thriving in their school environment. As President, Sherrie's inner passion fuels the motivation to maintain VOHLV and she is grateful to work beside the unwavering support of donors and volunteers. As the old saying goes "It takes a village to raise a child." Enthusiastic volunteers and compassionate donors make up our village. The Starfish Story
Original Story by: Loren Eiseley

One day, an old man was walking along the beach when he noticed a young boy picking something up and then gently throwing it into the ocean.

Approaching the boy, the old man asked, "What are you doing"?

The cheerful boy replied, "Throwing starfish back into the ocean. The surf is up and the tide is going out. If I don't throw them back, they'll surely die."

"Son," the man said, "don't you realize there are miles and miles of beach and thousands of starfish?
You can't possibly make a difference!"

After listening politely, the boy bent down, picked up another starfish, and tossed it into the surf. Then, smiling at the old man, he said, "I made a difference for that one."
